Worthwhile Web Wanderings

by Miss Mouse

A child's illustration of a mouseMS computer gifSpending some time every week on the www - the WorldWide Web - I keep coming across Christian insights that are really good. I also notice current trends in the field of spiritual beliefs and practices that can be worth knowing about. This has prompted me to set up this page where I will submit examples of such interesting electronic ‘finds'. Hopefully, I will post a new periodically. Sometimes, though, I can trawl through masses of comments for an hour or more and only come up with drivel, rantings or outright heresy. The WorldWide Web requires selectivity! But this will hopefully persuade those who avoid it like the plague that some spiritual gems are on offer.

So here are my offerings, after scuttling around a site on religion where people ask questions and anybody in the world can offer an answer. Atheists also participate and I was greatly encouraged when, after giving an answer to one question, "Do the Old and New Testaments contradict each other, and which is more relevant in Christianity?" the atheist who posted it responded, "You have inspired me to start reading the Bible!"

The participants are anonymous on that site, with only the country they come from being identified. They also use pseudonyms, which mean we don't know their real names. However, they have e-mail contact available on that particular site, so I have asked them for their permission to reproduce their answers. Every answer/comment submitted here comes with the author's permission. Enjoy!

No. 3 - Why did it take blood for our sins to be forgiven? God's Word to Adam concerning the tree was, 'If you eat of the fruit of this tree, you shall die.' Once Adam ate the fruit, death was the consequence. It took death for this word to be satisfied.

Answer from a Christian in America -

Hebrews 9:22 tells us that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Without forgiveness of sins there is no way for the requirement of God's righteousness to be fulfilled that the covenant may be enacted. But Christ's blood was shed for the forgiveness of sins, and the covenant was enacted with His blood.

I like the light that you gave regarding death coming in because of sin and it taking death (the shedding of blood) to deal with sin and satisfy God's righteous requirements.

Blood is crucial and Hebrews goes into rich detail regarding the Lord's blood. It is the blood of the eternal covenant (Heb 13:20), with which the new and better covenant was enacted (10:29). Through this blood Christ entered once for all into the Holy of Holies and obtained an eternal redemption for us (9:12). By this blood Christ cleansed the heavens and all things in the heavens (9:22-24). This blood sanctifies us (13:12; 10:29), purifies our conscience to serve the living God (9:14), and speaks something better for us than the blood of Abel (verse 24). It is in this blood that we have boldness for entering the Holy of Holies (10:19). We should not regard this blood common, like animal blood; if we do, we will suffer God's punishment (10:29).

In God's divinity there is no blood. He is Spirit. So this God had to put on humanity in order to be a Man to shed genuine blood on our behalf.

The Word tells us that it is the blood of God Himself that purchased us. Imagine that! "Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among whom the Holy Spirit has placed you as overseers to shepherd the church of God, which He obtained through His own blood." (Acts 20:28)

God's own blood is the blood of Jesus Christ. This implies that the Lord Jesus is God.

This Blood will never lose its power in reaching us, saving us to the uttermost. We OVERCOME Satan in this blood. Hallelujah! We may not be perfect, but praise the Lord, we are those who are under the perfect blood of our Lord Jesus. So, Amen! It took blood!
